Car Park 5 aircraft viewing area
The airport's official spotting area: a shelter and picnic benches by the perimeter fence on the east side, five minutes' walk from the terminal past the remote stands and fuel farm. It covers runway 33 arrivals and departures, 15 departures, and heavies vacating the runway right in front of you.

- From the terminal, leave by entrance A and follow the signs to Car Park 5 along the footpath. Free on foot; normal turn-up parking charges apply if you park in Car Park 5. Trains to Birmingham International, then the Air-Rail Link to the terminal.
- Best time
- East of the runway, so it is front-lit from sunrise until around noon — best in summer. Afternoons are backlit.
- Lens
- 200–300 mm for landings, 100–200 mm for taxiing aircraft. One or two ladder steps help clear the low fence.
Sheldon Country Park — runway 15 threshold
Open meadows at the northern end of the airport, under the approach to runway 15. Aircraft line up and land in front of you, and with space to move around you can keep the sun behind you as it swings across the sky.

- Train to Marston Green, then a few minutes' walk via the station footbridge and a path into the park, following the railway. Birmingham City Council car parks serve the park; the airport asks visitors not to park on residential streets.
- Best time
- Runway 15 operations, all day: shoot from the uneven ground near the threshold in the morning and move up the field to the benches in the afternoon.

Sheldon Country Park — west side for 33 departures
The western part of the park, beside the airport boundary, looks at aircraft climbing out from runway 33 over the treeline. A shady, quiet spot with plenty of room to choose your angle.

- Walk around the western airport boundary from the threshold area, or drive via the A45 Coventry Road, Arden Oak Road and Mapledene Road to the park entrance on Greenvale Avenue. No facilities.

- Runway 33 departures, from noon until sunset, when the sun is in the south-west and west.

International pier airside (gates 40–54)
For passengers only: a seating area with a big window near gate 42 at the end of the international pier overlooks taxiways Delta and Echo and some contact and remote stands.
