Planespotting Bergen — ENBR
Bergen Flesland is Norway's second-busiest airport and one of the few places in Europe where helicopters are half the show. The offshore oil and gas industry runs its crew shuttles from here, so heavy Sikorsky S-92s and other offshore types lift off for the North Sea platforms all day from the old terminal that is now a heliport. Fixed-wing traffic uses a single 2,990 m runway, 17/35, with 17 the more common direction; the airport sits on a rocky, wooded peninsula 13 km south-west of the city, and that terrain gives you natural high points around the fence, so ladders are rarely needed. Expect a busy domestic web of SAS, Norwegian and Widerøe, low-cost links to Poland and the Baltics, and occasional surprises: heavy charters and Ilyushin or Antonov freighters for offshore and industrial projects. Security is relaxed about spotters, and the Bybanen light rail runs straight to the terminal.

CHC helicopter hangar fence (end of Flyplassvegen)
The most versatile spot at Flesland: a slightly raised lot next to the CHC offshore helicopter hangars with both runway directions and the parallel taxiway in front of you. You also get the helicopter movements up close.
- Getting there
- At the end of Flyplassvegen; you can park right by the fence, or walk from the terminal following signs for P8 parking. Bybanen line 1 to the airport stop.
- Best time
- Sunrise to around noon, with the sun behind you; also good for night shots.
- Lens
- 24–200 mm (737 on the taxiway around 80 mm, 737 MAX on the runway around 140 mm).
Forest hill on Lilandsvegen
A rocky hilltop south of the terminal with a view across the whole runway and terminal area — good for both directions and for wide scenes with the hills behind.
- Getting there
- From highway 580 take Flyplassvegen, then a bumpy dirt road (Lilandsvegen) about 400 m up the hill — drive slowly. Or walk from the terminal past the Comfort Hotel and a car park, then up. Slippery when wet, and check yourself for ticks afterwards.
- Best time
- Sunrise to noon; summer heat haze builds up in the afternoon.
- Lens
- 100–400 mm.
P15 long-term car park fence
An easy walk from the terminal: from the slope by the perimeter fence you clear the wire and see the nearby apron plus 35 movements. Handy between trains or flights.
- Getting there
- Follow signs to P15 from the terminal. Drivers must park in a short-term car park and walk back. Do not touch the fence — it can trigger an alarm.
- Best time
- Sunrise to noon; parked aircraft occasionally block the view.
- Lens
- 24–250 mm (737 on stand around 70 mm, on the runway around 180 mm).
Slettenvegen hill (35 end)
A low hill with fairly little vegetation at the southern end, lined up for 35 arrivals and departures. Runway 17 traffic is usually too high or already gone by the time it reaches you.
- Getting there
- Fleslandsvegen to the junction with Slettenvegen, then the gravel path uphill from the bus stop; parking where the path starts. Bus 57 to Sletteskiftet — every 30 minutes, no service on Sundays.
- Best time
- Noon to sunset, only when 35 is in use.
- Lens
- 70–200 mm.
Fleslandsvegen near Revhusdalen (35 arrivals)
A small hill beside a building on Fleslandsvegen, or simply the pavement, for clean sky shots of aircraft on final for 35.
- Getting there
- Bus 57 to Revhusdalen (every 30 minutes, none on Sundays). No public car park — park considerately nearby. Industrial area; security may ask what you are doing during working hours.
- Best time
- Sunrise to noon; bright enough at night for long-exposure shots.
- Lens
- 70–200 mm.
Coastal forest at the end of Fleslandsvegen (17 movements)
On the west side by the coast, an elevated position in the woods above the fence for all 17 arrivals and departures. Quiet and remote.
- Getting there
- Drive to the turning circle at the end of Fleslandsvegen and walk about 15 minutes through the woods to the fence. Bus 57 gets you to the end stop. No facilities.
- Best time
- Noon to sunset when 17 is active — the more common direction.
- Lens
- 70–300 mm.

What you'll see
SAS and Norwegian 737s and A320neos dominate, linking Bergen with Oslo, Stavanger, Trondheim and Tromsø, while Widerøe runs Dash 8s and Embraer E2s along the coast. KLM, Lufthansa, Finnair and Icelandair connect to their hubs, and Wizz Air and Norwegian fly to Gdańsk and other Polish and Baltic cities for the region's workforce. The helicopter side is unique: CHC, Bristow and others shuttle offshore crews with Sikorsky S-92s and AW189s from dawn to evening. Charters for cruise passengers and industry, plus occasional Il-76 or An-26 freighters, bring the rare catches; summer is busiest with seasonal sun routes.

FAQ
What's that plane over Bergen?
Open Spotterra's live map to see every aircraft over Bergen and the fjords in real time with type, registration and route — including many of the offshore helicopters heading out to the North Sea.
Where's the best spot at Flesland?
The fence by the CHC helicopter hangars at the end of Flyplassvegen: it covers both runway directions, the taxiway and the heliport, and is walkable from the terminal. Mornings have the best light.
Which runway direction is more common?
Runway 17 is used more often. Then the coastal forest spot at the end of Fleslandsvegen works in the afternoon; when 35 is active, head to Slettenvegen.
Can I get to the spots without a car?
Yes, mostly. Bybanen light rail goes to the terminal, and bus 57 serves the southern and western spots — but it runs only every 30 minutes and not on Sundays.
